저 광대하고 냉랭하고 어디가나 텅 비어있는
끝없는 밤으로 채워진 은하 사이의 공간이다.

코스모스의 어느 한 구석을 무작위로 찍는다고 했을 때,
그곳이 운 좋게 행성 바로 위나 근처인 확률은 10분의 1의 33승이다.

그런 의미에서 사람이 살고있는 이 세상은
참으로 고귀한 것이라고 단언할 수 있다.

5월도 반이 지나가버린 오늘, 왠지 뭔가 쓰고싶어지는 날이다.
인사의견서도 내고, 전화도 몇 통 받고 하다보니 벌써 마음이 조급해진다.
벌써 지금까지 얻은 것들을 정리하고, 잃은 것들을 회복해야 하는 시기이다.
마음을 다 잡고, 지금까지 해온 것의 몇 배의 노력으로 나아가야 한다.
돌아갈 삶은 더욱 치열할테니까.

Dani Rodrik 교수가 앞으로 개발이 나아갈 방향에 대해서 쓴 기사가 있어서 필요한 부분을 옮겨본다.
사실 Jim Young Kim 총재를 끝까지 너무 지지를 안해줘서 조금 섭섭하다고나 할까? 이렇게까지 할 필요가? 라는 생각이 있었는데, 어쨌든 개발학 할 때 많이 수긍이 가는 주장을 펼치던 학자 중 하나였다.
Rodrik 교수는 Jim Young Kim총재와 두 후보(Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Jose Antonio Ocampo)의 접근 방식이 크게 다르다고 언급하며, 개발을 실행하는 두 조류를 비교한다.

There is a certain convergence on how we should think about and do development policy.
- both favor diagnostic, pragmatic, experimental and context-specific strategies
- acknowledge that we do not know what works, and that the binding constraints to development tend to be context-specific.
- policy experimentation is a central part of discovery, coupled with monitoring and evaluation to close the learning loop
- being suspicious of "best practices", look for policy innovations that are tailored to local economic circumstances and political complications
---> The filed of development policy can and should be reunified around these shared diagnostic, contextual approaches.
---> Both camps should show greater humility: macro-development practitioners about what they already know, and micro-development practitioners about what they can learn
요점만 정리하면, micro적인 접근이든 macro적인 접근이든 진단적(diagnostic)이고 맥락(context)을 고려한 전략이라는 공통분모 하에서 합쳐져야 한다는 이야기이다.
너무 분절적으로 사고해서는 될 것이 아니다.
"개발"이라는 테마는 정치, 경제, 환경, 역사 등을 총 망라한 고차원적인 사고를 요구하는 듯....
